I chose the subject of this exhibition because of my own personal experiences. Throughout the pregnancy of my son I had McTimoney Chiropractic treatment from Penny Nelmes. Penny enabled me to get through the pregnancy in comfort by helping my body adjust as my baby grew and developed. Once he was born she then gave him his first treatment at 45mins old; a wonderful experience to watch. He literally unfolded in her hands, and after his treatment he lost that ‘scrunched-up’ look. Everybody who came to see him commented upon his beautiful head shape and his contented nature. He still has that contented nature, and I believe that this is partly due to Penny’s regular treatments.

The aim of this exhibition was to demonstrate and promote the benefits of McTimoney Chiropractic Treatment. I have become very aware of its benefits to children’s developments. When my son has fallen or bumped himself he can quite often be out of sorts for a couple of days or he may suddenly not be sleeping well. A visit to the chiropractor and he is himself again.

While photographing Penny’s various patients, and hearing their stories as to why they are there, it became apparent how beneficial the chiropractic treatment is, and how much it can help the body to recover itself.

Penny has a special interest in the care of babies, children and pregnant Mums but does not limit her practice to that group. Often, once a baby is restored to a happy relaxed individual capable of growing and developing as nature intended, the siblings, parents and grandparents present as patients too. Many people who receive this form of treatment learn to understand and respect the recognition of early disturbances in their well being and seek care before this develops into symptoms of dis-ease and malfunction.
