Amy became interested in band photography in 2001 when she was asked to be the official photographer for the Chichester Fringe. The result was a portfolio of black and white photographs taken during the shows of various performers. These included ‘Any Questions’ the Radio 4 programme hosted by Jonathan Dimbleby and featuring Germaine Greer, Norman Lamont, Trevor Phillips and Simon Carr. Others acts Amy photographed included Ross Noble the comedian, Kiki Dee and the London Gospel Community Choir. She then went on to photograph the Blues Festival ‘Blues on the Farm’ in Chichester; here she had the opportunity to photograph Bob Geldolf.

Amy’s next step in band photography was to photograph Turin Brakes. She first photographed them at Shepherd’s Bush Empire and was then offered the opportunity to photograph them in their recording studio. This gave her the opportunity to produce a brilliant series of photographs capturing the band working on their album. When looking at these images you almost feel like you are intruding on their private time, when they are deep into their work. Amy has the ability to put people at their ease, allowing them to relax and carry on their work, which in turn allows her to be able to create on film very natural images.

Through Turin Brakes, her next step in band photography was to photograph at V2002, the Chelmsford venue. Here she had the opportunity to photograph Alanis Morrisette, Stereo Mc’s, Manic Street Preachers and Turin Brakes. Amy’s photographs have recently been featured on 'Average Man' one of the Turin Brakes singles.

Amy’s Comments

“I love the excitement of band photography. When photographing at music venues you are often only given the first three tracks in which to photograph the band. You have to work quickly, manoeuvring around the mass of other photographers, and remain focused on getting the shot that works, that shows the band at their most intense, sweat included!”
